Our straight length and spooled, small diameter hardfacing wires have set the standard for quality when utilized with the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process. These alloys have long met the discriminating needs of the aerospace industry. Alloys such as PMet 980 and PMet 994 are used in applications such as the Z notches on turbine blades. PMet 842 and PMet 972 are used to re-tip high pressure turbine blades.
During the past several years, Polymet Corporation has been quietly building a reputation for providing the highest quality wire for the twin wire arc spray process. The company has attained a number of aerospace approvals from General Electric and Pratt and Whitney for wires such as PMet 885 and PMet 886. Customers have quickly taken to our iron-based carbide containing wires (PMet 285, PMet 225) used in wear applications. Our PMet 50 alloy has been accepted as the standard in non-skid applications as well as bond coat in the automotive industry.

One of our most interesting applications is welding PMet 912 to the teeth of large band saw and round saw blades using Plasma Arc Welding. The product is provided on 25 pound spools and is fed into a copper chill mold where it is quickly melted and solidified into a well-formed saw tooth. Customers can sharpen these teeth to a thinner kerf, thus reducing the amount of waste by products.

Other hardfacing alloys have been put to use in mining applications, die repairs and as a cladding material on plates using Flux Cored Arc Welding and Submerged Arc Welding. In G65 abrasion tests, our PMet 227 alloy has easily surpassed all of the competition

In addition to supplying a wide variety of specialty grade wires, Polymet supplies many of the more common AMS and AWS grade welding wires. Wires such as PMet 818, 875, 905, and 988 are available in straight length or spooled forms. These products are commonly used in the manufacture and repair of aviation and land based gas turbines.
